The Mekong Delta is the region in southwestern Vietnam where the Mekong River approaches and empties into the sea. Mekong delta region encompasses a large portion of southwestern Vietnam of over 40,500 square kilometres. The size of the area covered by water depends on the season. River has been dubbed as a "biological treasure trove". Over 1,000 animal species were recorded between 1997 and 2007 and new species of plants, fish, lizards, and mammals have been discovered in previously unexplored areas, including the Laotian rock rat, thought to be extinct.
Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon - a city in southern Vietnam, on the west bank of the Saigon River. An important industrial center and transport hub. The main seaport of the country. Under the name Saigon, it was the capital of French Indochina from 1887 to 1902 and again from 1945 to 1954. Saigon would later become the capital of South Vietnam from 1955 until its fall in 1975. On 2 July 1976, Saigon merged with the surrounding Gia Định Province and was officially renamed Ho Chi Minh City.
The tunnels of Củ Chi are an immense network of connecting underground tunnels located in the Củ Chi District of Ho Chi Minh City. This is part of a much larger network of tunnels that underlie much of the country. The Củ Chi tunnels were the location of several military campaigns. During the Vietnam War were the Viet Cong's base of operations for the Tết Offensive in 1968. In the tunnels there were hospitals, kitchens, bedrooms, conference rooms and arsenals. Original length of these tunnels reached over 200 km, but only 120 km have survived to this day.
The War Remnants Museum is a war museum at 28 Vo Van Tan, in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). It contains exhibits relating to the Vietnam War. The first Indochina War involving the French colonialists. This museum comprises a series of themed rooms in several buildings, with period military equipment placed within a walled yard. The military equipment includes a UH-1 "Huey" helicopter, an F-5A fighter. BLU-82 "Daisy Cutter" bomb. M48 Patton tank. A-1 Skyraider attack bomber, and an A-37 Dragonfly attack bomber.
